Authorities in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district have intensified action against illegal paddy movement as the procurement season begins. A registered trader allegedly hid 65 bags of paddy in another villager’s house to divert the stock illegally. A joint inspection team seized the consignment, while police also intercepted a pickup truck carrying 60 bags of paddy from Odisha.
According to officials, teams from the Revenue Department, Food Department, and Mandi Board are monitoring illegal transportation and storage. On 20 November, they received information that a large quantity of paddy was stored at the home of Angad Yadav in village Ghargodi.
A joint team comprising the Naib Tehsildar, Assistant Food Officer, and Mandi Inspector reached the spot and found 65 bags of paddy stored without authorization. During questioning, Yadav revealed that licensed trader Uddhav Danseena had kept the stock there. Officials concluded that the trader intended to sell the paddy illegally. A case has been registered under the Mandi Act, and the entire stock has been confiscated.
Meanwhile, police in Pusaur caught a pickup vehicle near the Odisha border during routine checking on 19 November. The vehicle was found loaded with 60 bags of paddy. Driver Anand Sa, a resident of Semrlia in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district, admitted he was transporting the grain to sell it at a mandi or procurement center in Chhattisgarh.
Since he failed to produce any valid documents, a case was registered, and the Mandi Inspector was informed.
