A Raipur court has handed down a life imprisonment sentence to millionaire businessman Piyush Jha for murdering his younger brother Parag Jha nearly two years ago, convicting him on charges of homicide and illegal possession of a firearm.
The verdict, delivered recently, caps a case that shocked the city when it unfolded on February 25, 2024. Prosecutors proved Piyush, an aeronautical engineer running a successful drone manufacturing firm, shot Parag three times during a heated argument at their shared home in Sapphire Green Phase-2 colony.

Public prosecutor Basant God led the case, presenting evidence including forensic reports, the unlicensed pistol recovered from Piyush, and his own confession.
That night, after returning home around 10 pm, Piyush found Parag there. Old grievances escalated into taunts, then physical violence. Piyush admitted in his statement that Parag pushed him, sparking a brawl. Already distressed from a recent broken engagement, business pressures, and alcohol dependency, Piyush grabbed a pistol from a cupboard and fired.

Parag collapsed with head wounds, blood pooling across the floor. In a chilling move, Piyush video-called their mother, living separately in Capital Home colony, and showed her the body. She alerted police, who rushed to the scene and set up checkpoints.
Officers nabbed Piyush hours later in DD Nagar area, still carrying the weapon. He had fled with phones and IDs but was tracked via mobile location and vehicle details.

The brothers had built a thriving drone company from a modest Rs 45,000 start-up to a Rs 3.5 crore enterprise in two years. Piyush, who left a hostel superintendent job for the venture, secured contracts with railways, RPF, BSF, state police, and agriculture sectors. Parag later joined the business.
Yet personal demons plagued Piyush — depression, heavy drinking, and frequent sibling disputes over his habit fueled the fatal rage. Family members were devastated, left grieving amid the swift police response and forensic examination. The conviction underscores risks of unlicensed arms and unchecked personal turmoil, even in affluent circles.
