As many as 19 people have been killed in Raipur in the 221 days since the commissionerate system came into effect, according to the crime figures cited in a report based on police records. Police arrested the accused in the case. The incident was reportedly linked to a dispute, although there were also discussions about a possible connection with illegal activities.
Financial and family disputes among cases
Several killings reported during March and April were linked to personal or financial disputes.
On March 28, Ajay Agrawal was allegedly stabbed to death in the Tikrapara area following a dispute involving Rs 50,000. In April, a 19-year-old youth was killed in Joginagar under Civil Lines police station limits. Another case involved the alleged strangulation of Parvati Sahu following a family dispute in the Kotwali area.

May double murder in Pandri
A double murder in May became one of the more serious incidents recorded during the period.
On the night of May 5, a dispute involving Jitendra Verma and his wife reportedly escalated in Mowa under Pandri police station limits. Verma allegedly opened fire on his two sisters-in-law, Geetanjali and Durgeshwari.
Geetanjali died at the spot, while Durgeshwari succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Police registered two murder cases in connection with the incident.
Three killings reported in June and July
