Raipur district’s in-charge secretary and Additional Chief Secretary Richa Sharma on Friday chaired a comprehensive review meeting at the Red Cross auditorium in the Collectorate complex, directing officials to ensure timely delivery of government schemes and improved basic facilities in schools, including separate toilets and sanitary vending machines.
During the meeting, Sharma stressed that the benefits of all welfare schemes must reach citizens without delay and instructed officials to address public grievances with sensitivity and accountability. She underlined the need for close monitoring to ensure effective implementation at the ground level.
Reviewing the school education sector, the in-charge secretary directed that all government schools must have separate and functional toilets for boys and girls. She also instructed the education department to install sanitary vending machines in schools and ensure their regular operation and cleanliness. Emphasising student welfare, Sharma said such facilities are essential to promote hygiene, dignity and regular attendance, especially among adolescent girls.
She further directed officials to strengthen academic infrastructure by setting up Atal Tinkering Labs and libraries in schools as per requirement. According to her, access to innovation labs and reading spaces would help improve learning outcomes and encourage scientific thinking among students.
The review meeting also covered the progress of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). Officials informed that PMAY 2.0 has received approval and construction work is progressing at a fast pace. Sharma suggested that new houses should be designed to provide relief from extreme heat, keeping local climatic conditions in mind. She also directed departments to expedite targets under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Collector Dr Gaurav Singh briefed the in-charge secretary on several district-level initiatives, including Project Suraksha, Project Dhadkan, Smriti Library and Project Dadhichi. Sharma appreciated these efforts and called for their effective expansion to benefit more people.
She also praised the work of Project Aja and the Indian Red Cross Society in the district. Officials informed her that the Red Cross has more than 3,000 active members in Raipur. Under the initiative “Project Zindagi Muskurayegi,” medical treatment is being provided to children in need, which Sharma described as a commendable social effort.
