Raipur Ganesh Banner Dispute Turns Violent: Two Groups Clash at Pensionbada Chowk, Five Booked

A dispute over putting up Ganesh festival flex banners in Raipur’s Pensionbada Chowk turned into a clash between two groups. Police have registered cases against five people after both sides alleged assault with sticks, rods and other weapons.

Raipur: A dispute over installing Ganesh festival flex banners turned violent in Raipur’s Pensionbada Chowk area, where two groups allegedly clashed on Wednesday evening.

According to police, the incident started around 4:30 pm near Pensionbada Chowk and later turned into a physical confrontation. Both sides accused each other of abusing, threatening and attacking with sticks, rods, iron tools and stones.Several people from both groups sustained injuries in the clash. Kotwali Police have registered cases based on complaints from both sides and started an investigation.

Dispute started over banner-related issue

According to the complaint filed by Pensionbada resident Piyush Yadav, he was standing near the square on September 2 when Hitesh Tandi and Kartik Mahanand were putting up Ganesh flex banners.Piyush alleged that Hitesh questioned him over tearing of a banner. After he objected, an argument broke out, which later escalated into a fight.He alleged that the other side attacked using fists, sticks, rods, a sabbal and stones. Police said injuries were reported among people involved in the incident.The injured were taken to Mekahara Hospital for treatment.

Second group also files complaint

Hitesh Tandi gave a separate complaint, alleging that he and Kartik were installing Ganesh banners near a Sulabh facility at Pensionbada Chowk when Piyush, Bunty Chauhan and Bhavesh Yadav objected.Hitesh alleged that they were abused, threatened and assaulted during the dispute.He claimed injuries to his shoulder, left wrist and back, while Kartik suffered a head injury.

Police investigating cause of clash

After receiving complaints from both sides, Kotwali Police registered cases against a total of five people.Police are investigating the exact sequence of events, the reason behind the dispute and the alleged use of weapons during the clash.Officials are also examining available evidence related to the incident.
