55-Year-Old Man Arrested for Repeatedly Raping 9-Year-Old Girl Over 5 Days

In a shocking case from Raipur, Chhattisgarh, a 55-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl repeatedly over five days. The accused, identified as Abdul Sajjad Ansari, who runs a bangles shop in the area and also sells chocolates and snacks, lured the child with treats before assaulting her.

The incident came to light on January 12, 2026, in the Civil Lines police station area, when the girl complained of severe pain in her private parts while being bathed by her aunt. Distressed and crying, she revealed the ordeal to her family after gentle questioning. According to her statement, Ansari would take her to his home on the pretext of giving her chocolates and other items from his shop. There, he allegedly removed her clothes and committed repeated sexual assaults between January 7 and 11. He threatened to kill her if she told anyone, leaving the child terrified and silent until the physical pain became unbearable.

The family immediately approached the Civil Lines police, who registered a case and took Ansari into custody. Investigations are underway, with the accused expected to be produced in court soon. Police have deployed security at the site as a precautionary measure.

The case triggered strong public outrage. Members of Bajrang Dal reached the police station along with the victim's family, demanding strict punishment, including the death penalty for the accused.

This incident highlights the persistent vulnerability of children in the region. According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data trends, Chhattisgarh has seen fluctuations but remains among states with notable reported cases of crimes against children, including sexual offences. In recent years, the state has recorded thousands of such incidents, with many involving known persons or relatives preying on minors through lure and intimidation. Broader national statistics indicate a worrying rise in child rape cases over the past decade in several states, underscoring systemic challenges in protection and reporting.

Child rights advocates stress the need for greater awareness, stricter enforcement of the POCSO Act, and community vigilance to prevent such horrors. The victim's medical examination and counselling have been prioritised, while police continue probing for any additional details.
