Raipur registered more than 15,800 criminal cases in 2025, with a noticeable rise in murders, crimes against women, and cyber offences, even as overall crime figures showed a decline compared to the previous year, according to official police data released on Monday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Lal Umed Singh said that a total of 15,896 cases were recorded in 2025, down from 17,703 cases in 2024, marking an overall reduction of nearly 10 percent. Despite this decline, the nature of violent crime has become a growing concern for law enforcement agencies.
Police officials noted an increase in murders stemming from sudden and trivial disputes. Several homicide cases were linked to minor arguments, including disagreements over mobile phone usage, food-related issues, and refusal to accompany someone. SSP Singh said such impulsive crimes pose a challenge and will be a key focus area for police intervention in the coming year.
Crimes against women and cyber-related offences also showed an upward trend in 2025. While specific numbers were not disclosed, police acknowledged that digital fraud, online harassment, and technology-enabled crimes are increasing with expanding internet use and require specialized enforcement strategies.
On the enforcement front, Raipur Police intensified action against drug trafficking throughout the year. SSP Singh said police registered 271 cases under narcotics laws and arrested around 445 accused individuals. Trials in several cases were actively monitored, resulting in strict punishment for more than 100 offenders. Police also claimed to have dismantled major narcotics networks operating in and around the city and vowed continued vigilance to prevent their resurgence.
Traffic enforcement saw a significant push in 2025, with the number of e-challans issued rising by nearly 50 percent compared to the previous year. Police officials said the increased enforcement aimed to improve road discipline and reduce accidents. Public awareness campaigns on road safety are planned to further curb traffic-related fatalities.
The SSP highlighted Raipur Police’s role in maintaining law and order during protests, festivals, state-level events, and public gatherings throughout the year. Adequate deployment ensured that no major untoward incidents were reported during these occasions, which police described as a key operational achievement.
Looking ahead, police authorities said efforts will focus on preventing impulsive violence, strengthening cybercrime investigation, sustaining anti-drug operations, and improving public safety through community engagement.
