Dispute Over Money for a Pet Dog

According to reports, the accused, Pradeep Devangan (45), an e-rickshaw driver, lives with his family in the Urla area of Raipur. On Friday morning, he demanded Rs. 200 from his 70-year-old mother, Ganeshi Devangan, to buy a German Shepherd puppy, which cost Rs. 800. He had already collected Rs. 600 but was unable to get the remaining amount from his mother.

Son's Rage Turns Deadly

When Ganeshi refused to give him the money, Pradeep lost his temper and attacked her with a hammer kept at home. The brutal blows to her head led to her immediate death. During the attack, his wife, Rameshwari Devangan, who was present in the house, heard the commotion and tried to intervene. In response, Pradeep also struck her with the hammer. Rameshwari has been hospitalized in serious condition but is said to be stable now.

A Son’s Quick Thinking Leads to Discovery

The couple’s 15-year-old son witnessed the horrific event and immediately alerted neighbors about the attack. When the neighbors arrived, they found Ganeshi’s lifeless body and Rameshwari severely injured. They quickly informed the police and ambulance.

Accused on the Run, Police Search for Him

The police have confirmed the incident, and ASP Lakhan Patle stated that the accused, Pradeep Devangan, fled after committing the crime. Authorities are actively pursuing his arrest. The hammer used in the attack has been recovered, and a case of murder and attempted murder has been registered.

Was Mental Illness or Substance Abuse a Factor?

Neighbors and family members have noted that Pradeep’s behavior had been erratic for some time, and he was known to become violent over trivial matters. The police are now investigating whether he was mentally unstable at the time of the attack or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
