Residents of Raipur West Assembly constituency are set to gain a major green public space, with the state government approving the development of a modern garden in Jarway on the lines of the city’s popular Oxyzone park. The project will be developed on 10 acres of government land at an estimated cost of ₹9 crore under AMRUT Mission Phase-II.
Officials confirmed that financial approval for the project has already been granted, and the identification of suitable land in Jarway concludes a long search for an appropriate site. The garden is expected to significantly enhance green cover while providing a dedicated recreational space for families, children and senior citizens in the fast-growing western part of the city.
On Wednesday, former minister and local MLA Rajesh Moonat visited the proposed site along with senior administrative officials to review ground conditions and initiate preparatory steps. The inspection team included Municipal Commissioner Vishwadeep, Superintending Engineer Rajesh Naidu, Executive Engineer Atul Chopra, Tehsildar Saurabh Kashyap, and senior officials from Zone-8 and the revenue department.
During the inspection, Moonat noted that areas such as Heerapur, Jarway and Atari have witnessed rapid urban expansion in recent years, emerging as key residential and educational hubs. Several institutions, including a government model college and an ITI, are already operational in the vicinity, increasing the demand for quality public spaces.
“For a growing population, especially children, elderly residents and families, a well-planned garden is no longer a luxury but a necessity,” Moonat said, stressing that the proposed park would address a long-standing demand of local residents.
According to municipal officials, the upcoming garden will feature landscaped lawns, walking and jogging tracks, seating areas, children’s play zones and basic fitness facilities. Emphasis will be placed on eco-friendly design, water conservation and accessibility, in line with AMRUT Mission objectives.
Authorities said that once procedural formalities related to land transfer and tendering are completed, construction work will commence without delay. The project is expected to generate local employment during the construction phase and contribute to improved urban livability in the long term.
Urban planners believe the garden will serve as a new social and recreational hub for Raipur West, while also easing pressure on existing parks in the city. With rising population density and shrinking open spaces, the initiative is being viewed as a critical step toward sustainable urban development.
