RIPA Centers in Poor Condition Despite Crores Spent; Govt Plans to Hand Over Operations to Panchayats

Rural Industrial Parks (RIPA), built at a cost of crores, are now lying in neglect with poor maintenance and underutilization. In a move to revive them, the government is considering transferring operational responsibility to local Panchayats.

5 RIPA centers (Mahatma Gandhi Rural Industrial Park) established by the previous government in Gariaband district are in a bad state today. The supervision and implementation of these industrial parks, which were built at a cost of more than Rs 15 crore, has become completely lax. In these centers, a dozen women self-help groups had started various packaging and manufacturing works by taking additional loans under the National Livelihood Mission, but now they are not getting any kind of support.

Electricity bill pending in Mainpur Center

Ripa Center in Mainpur has an electricity bill of Rs 1.20 lakh pending. Due to the machines stopping working here, works like packaging and stitching came to a standstill. Still, the group did the work of purchasing Mahua for income, but due to lack of supervision, Mahua worth Rs 2.5 lakh was stolen. After this incident of theft, local public representatives raised the demand to pay attention to RIPA. The administration is preparing to bring RIPA centers under the Panchayat.
