River Pollution from Liquor Distillery: Govt Submits Sample Report in High Court

In the case concerning river pollution caused by a liquor distillery, the government submitted a sample report in the High Court. The court has scheduled the next hearing in August to review the findings and further action.
The High Court heard the case of river pollution due to water released from the liquor distillery on Monday. The court was told by the government that sufficient oxygen has been found in the water samples taken for the last 5 months. The division bench has kept the matter for monitoring and scheduled the next hearing in August.
Information came to light about the pollution of Shivnath river, death of fish and cattle due to chemicals released from the distillery. The High Court had asked the Environment Protection Board to take action by giving necessary instructions on 3 February 2025. In compliance with this, the Regional Officer, Chhattisgarh Environment Protection Board submitted an affidavit and informed that this industry was also inspected by the officials of the Regional Office, Chhattisgarh Environment Protection Board on 7 March and 24 March 2025 respectively.
In the inspection, it was found that the industry has installed a multi-effect evaporation system consisting of dryer and RO. The industry treats its wastewater and reuses it in cooling, dust control and plantation. During the inspection, the industry was found to have zero emission status. The concerned officers of the department are keeping constant monitoring.
