Rs 2 Crore Wall Damaged in First Rain; Corruption Alleged

A wall built at a cost of Rs 2 crore collapsed after the first rain, prompting allegations of corruption from the District Panchayat Chairman. A penalty of Rs 5 lakh has been imposed on the contracting company responsible.

Gariaband. The dia from wall built in the year 2022 at a cost of Rs 2 crore at Senmuda Ghat of Tel River broke in the first rain itself. More than 20 meters of the wall got damaged from the middle, but no concrete repair work has been done after this till now. The concerned officers claim that "the objective of the scheme will be fulfilled in the construction that has been done."

Let us tell you, under the water supply scheme approved by the Congress government, a tank was to be constructed at Senmuda Ghat. But due to technical and other reasons, the construction work has been started in 2025, after 2 years. But as soon as the plan was approved, in the year 2022, a die-form wall was erected at a distance of just 30 meters from the tank location to maintain the water level in this tank, so that the flow of the river stops at one level and it is easy to fill the tank. But the condition of this wall built at a cost of crores has become very bad.

Allegations of corruption

The chairman of the construction committee of the District Panchayat, Deshbandhu Nayak, who himself is a resident of Senmuda, has alleged large-scale corruption in this construction work. He says that according to the plan, there was a lot of negligence in the strength with which the wall was to be prepared. This is the reason why this wall was washed away in the first rain itself.

Demand for high-level investigation

Deshbandhu Nayak further said that "This is the first such construction work in the district which broke down even before completion, and despite this it was declared complete in the records." He has also lodged a related complaint in Jhakharpara camp, demanding a high-level investigation into the whole matter.

Instead of taking action against the engineer, he was promoted

Nayak said that no action was taken against engineer PR Sirmaurya, who was responsible for the irregularities in the construction of the wall, but he was made the SDO of Chhura subdivision. He said that other engineers were also reluctant to take charge of this work, which is a sign of departmental negligence.

The objective will be fulfilled: Irrigation Department Officer

Executive Engineer of the Irrigation Department S.K. Barman said that after the wall broke, it was repaired. Supporting work has also been done on other parts of the wall. He also said that a penalty of Rs 5 lakh has been recovered from the contracting company due to the defects in the construction. According to Barman, "The objective of the scheme will be fulfilled with the wall."
