7 Naxalites Gunned Down on Chhattisgarh–Andhra Pradesh Border

Security forces have killed seven Naxalites along the Chhattisgarh–Andhra Pradesh border, including three women. Reports suggest that Devji, a Politburo member and the Naxal organisation’s General Secretary, is among those killed. Bodies and weapons of all the slain Naxalites have been recovered. Four of them have been identified, while efforts are underway to confirm the identity of the remaining three.

The encounter took place in the same area where top Naxal commander Hidma was shot dead on the morning of November 18. Security agencies had received intelligence inputs regarding Devji’s presence in the region, following which forces were deployed for the operation.

Just a day earlier, Hidma, his wife, and four other Naxalites were eliminated in an encounter in the same forested zone. Currently, security forces are conducting an extensive search operation in the dense forests of Maredumilli in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitarama Raju district.

Meanwhile, an encounter is also underway between security personnel and Naxalites in the forest area of Bortalaw near Dongargarh. One jawan has reportedly been injured and shifted to Dongargarh hospital. Search operations have been intensified in the region.

Naxalites killed include:

  • Jogarao

  • Chelluri Narayan Rao, Special Zonal Committee Member (SZCM)

  • Azad, Special Zonal Committee Member (SZCM)

  • Jyoti, Divisional Committee Member (DVCM)

  • Identification of three others is in progress

Hidma Killed a Day Earlier

On the morning of November 18, top Naxal commander Madvi Hidma was killed during an encounter in the Maredumilli forests along the Chhattisgarh–Andhra Pradesh border. Hidma was considered one of India’s most dangerous Naxal commanders. His wife, Rajje alias Rajakka, and four others were also killed in the same encounter.

Mastermind of Over 26 Major Naxal Attacks

Over the past two decades, Hidma is believed to have orchestrated more than 26 major Naxal attacks. These include:

  • The 2010 Dantewada ambush, in which 76 CRPF personnel were killed

  • The 2013 Jhiram Ghati attack

  • The 2021 Sukma-Bijapur attack

He was one of the most feared and high-ranking Maoist leaders operating in the region.
