Senior IPS officer Shashi Mohan Singh on Monday formally assumed charge as the Deputy Inspector General of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Raigarh district, outlining crime control and community policing as his top priorities. A 2012-batch Indian Police Service officer, Singh becomes the 21st SSP of Raigarh since the formation of Chhattisgarh.
After taking over, SSP Singh met senior police officers and personnel at the district headquarters, holding introductory interactions to review the existing law and order framework. His appointment follows a transfer order issued by the Home (Police) Department of the Chhattisgarh government on January 22, under which he was posted to Raigarh.
Addressing officers after assuming charge, SSP Singh emphasised the need for coordinated and people-centric policing. He said effective law enforcement requires close cooperation with public representatives, citizens, the media and various government departments. “Policing cannot function in isolation. Building trust through dialogue and transparency will be central to our approach,” he said.
Singh made it clear that maintaining law and order and curbing crime would remain the foremost focus of the district police. Alongside strict enforcement of the law, he stressed the importance of community policing to raise public awareness and strengthen the bond between police and citizens. Officials said initiatives under community policing would aim at preventive action, public participation and responsive grievance redressal.
The new SSP said the Raigarh police would function with sensitivity, accountability and firmness. “Ensuring peace and security in the district is our responsibility, and the police force will work with full commitment to uphold the rule of law,” he said, adding that professionalism and ethical conduct would be expected at every level.
Republic Day Observance
On the occasion of Republic Day, SSP Singh hoisted the national flag at the Superintendent of Police office premises and took the salute of the armed guard. Addressing police personnel, he recalled the sacrifices of freedom fighters and soldiers, stating that the independence and democratic system of the country were built on their contribution.
He reminded officers that enforcing the law in a democracy is a significant responsibility and urged them to discharge their duties with honesty, integrity and dedication. “Public confidence in the police depends on our conduct and commitment to justice,” he said.
Senior officers noted that Singh’s emphasis on community engagement and disciplined policing is expected to shape policing priorities in Raigarh in the coming months. His tenure will be closely watched, particularly in areas related to crime prevention, public outreach and inter-departmental coordination.
