Shivnath River in Spate: 7 km Service Road Planned from Medical College to RK Nagar Chowk; Mayor Pal Inspects Flooded Areas

Due to rising water levels in the Shivnath River, several areas in the city are facing waterlogging. In response, a 7 km long service road is proposed from Medical College to RK Nagar Chowk. Mayor Pal visited the affected areas to assess the situation and direct relief efforts.
The entire district has been drenched due to rain for the last three days. Mongra Barrage located at Ambagarh Chowki has overflowed due to heavy rains in the forest area. 52 thousand cusecs of water is being released from the barrage into Shivnath. Due to this, the Shivnath river is in spate. In view of the flood situation, the administration has issued an alert in the lower settlements. Apart from this, the administration has also directed the disaster management team to remain in alert mode. Due to continuous rain, the flow of water has increased from fields and barns to small and big rivers and Rapata. There is also enough waterlogging in the three major barrages. Due to this, a guideline has been issued to avoid people going to the river bank and not to take risks to make selfies and reels etc. Let us tell you that after the flood situation was created in the river, there was a good crowd of people in other ghats of Shivnath river including Mohra from morning to evening on Tuesday. In the last 24 hours, 502.6 mm and average 71.8 mm rainfall has been recorded in all 7 tehsils of Rajnandgaon district. 68.2 mm rainfall has been recorded in Dongargarh tehsil, 73 mm in Lal Bahadur Nagar tehsil, 72.7 mm in Rajnandgaon tehsil, 65.5 mm in Ghumka tehsil, 107.9 mm in Chhuriya tehsil, 74.7 mm in Kumarda tehsil, 40.6 mm in Dongargaon tehsil. The highest rainfall of 107.9 mm has been recorded in Chhuriya tehsil.
Preparation reviewed
After continuous rain, the Collector and SP held a meeting of officers and employees and gave necessary guidelines to deal with any emergency including disaster like flood in the district. It was told in the meeting that a disaster management control room has been set up to deal with the situation of possible flood and water logging. Apart from this, adequate arrangements have been made. As resources, 3 boats, 6 Aashta lights, 3 camel cutters and sufficient number of life jackets are available in the district. Apart from this, 21 divers are also available if required.
