Shock in Khairagarh Over Double Murder: Husband and Wife Killed with Sharp Weapon, Neighbor Taken into Custody

A double murder in Atariya village of Khairagarh district, Chhattisgarh, sent shockwaves through the community on Friday morning when the blood-soaked bodies of a husband and wife were found in the same house.
The deceased have been identified as 55-year-old Babulal Shori and his 51-year-old wife Sunati Bai Shori. Both were killed with a sharp-edged weapon. The wife’s body was found in the courtyard of the house, while the husband’s body was discovered inside a room, covered in blood.
Incident Occurred Early Morning
According to police, the crime took place between 4 and 5 a.m. on Friday. Locals reported hearing screams from the house, but by the time they arrived, both victims had already died. Villagers immediately informed the police. Officers from Gandai police station reached the scene, sealed it, and began an investigation, sending the bodies for post-mortem.
Neighbor Taken into Custody Over Rivalry
Station House Officer Rajesh Devdas stated that preliminary investigation confirmed that the murders were committed with a sharp-edged weapon. The couple’s neighbor, 35-year-old Bhagwati Gond, has been taken into custody as a suspect. Reports suggest there was a prior dispute between the accused and the victims’ family. Police are currently interrogating the suspect.
Motorbike Found in Room Raises Suspicions
Several important clues were recovered from the scene. The husband’s body was found inside a room, near which a fallen motorcycle was discovered. Police suspect that a struggle may have occurred during the attack.

The news of the double murder created an atmosphere of mourning and fear throughout Atariya village. A large crowd of villagers gathered at the scene, demanding strict action against the accused from the authorities.

The police are investigating the exact motive behind the killings. All angles—including personal enmity, property disputes, and other conflicts—are being examined. The weapon used in the murders is also being searched for.
