Shocking Double Tragedy in Chhattisgarh: Dhamtari Husband Murders Wife on Diwali, Commits Suicide; Surajpur Man Kills Spouse Over Dinner Dispute

In a spine-chilling incident that has sent shockwaves through Chhattisgarh, a festive Diwali night turned deadly in Dhamtari district's Hardi village. Himmat Yadav, a local resident, allegedly murdered his wife Lakshmi Yadav before hanging himself, leaving the community reeling from grief and horror. The gruesome discovery was preceded by a chilling social media confession that exposed the couple's unraveling domestic tensions.

Himmat and Lakshmi, married just a year ago, reportedly shared minor squabbles but no major conflicts, according to villagers. However, on Diwali eve, Himmat updated his Instagram status with a harrowing message: "I am Himmat Yadav. I have killed my wife Lakshmi with my own hands. The reason is nothing but her parents – I did it because of them, and now I am hanging myself." The post, which mentioned Lakshmi's in-laws, went unnoticed until the next day when a foul odor from their home alerted neighbors. Rushing inside, they found Lakshmi's body on the floor and Himmat dangling from a noose. Police were immediately informed, and the bodies were sent for postmortem at a local hospital.

Dhamtari police have launched a probe, interrogating Himmat's family and Lakshmi's parents to uncover any underlying disputes. "The status message is our key evidence. We're exploring if external pressures, like family interference, triggered this tragedy," said a senior officer. The incident has reignited debates on marital discord and the perils of unresolved conflicts, especially during joyous festivals like Diwali.

In a parallel horror from Surajpur district's Bhatthapara area, another husband, Atwar Singh (38), was arrested for bludgeoning his wife, Mangli Bai, to death. The couple, renting a home, had a heated argument late Sunday night over Mangli's failure to prepare dinner. Witnesses heard screams throughout the night. The next morning, concerned neighbor Neeraj Dewangan found Mangli unconscious and rushed her to the district hospital, where she succumbed during treatment.

Atwar, a resident of Sagaripur under Ramanujnagar police station, confessed during interrogation: "She didn't make food; I lost my temper and hit her with a stick." Acting on DIG and SSP directives, Surajpur police swiftly raided and nabbed him, seizing the bloodied weapon. Station House Officer Vimalesh Dubey led the operation, registering charges under IPC sections for murder. Atwar faces life imprisonment as the case highlights rising domestic violence in rural Chhattisgarh.

These back-to-back spousal killings underscore a disturbing trend of gender-based violence in the state. Authorities urge counseling and helplines like 1098 for at-risk families. As investigations continue, the Yadav and Singh families mourn amid calls for stricter intervention in marital strife.
