Sixteen People Arrested in Durg for Cyber Fraud; Lakhs Recovered from Mule Bank Accounts

Police in Durg have busted a major cyber-fraud racket and arrested 16 individuals involved in facilitating financial transactions for online scams. The action was taken after an alert was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) through its national coordination portal.

The case pertains to the Mohan Nagar police station area. According to the portal alert, around ₹11 lakhsuspected to be proceeds of cyber fraud had been deposited into 22 bank accounts at Karnataka Bank’s Mohan Nagar branch.

Investigation revealed that the money was siphoned from victims across the country through various online scams and then funneled into these accounts. The account holders and operators had used or withdrawn the funds, indicating their direct involvement.

Based on the data received from the coordination portal, police identified the suspicious accounts and traced the individuals operating them.

Multiple Raids, 16 Arrests

Once it was established that the accounts were used to handle fraudulent money, Mohan Nagar police registered a case. Teams carried out raids at several locations and arrested all 16 accused, who have now been sent to judicial custody.

The special team formed under the Mohan Nagar Station House Officer used technical analysis, bank transaction history, mobile number tracking and assistance from the cyber cell to zero in on the accused.

Police said many of those arrested had provided their bank accounts to cyber fraudsters in exchange for commission. These are known as “mule accounts,” used to circulate and withdraw money illegally acquired through cybercrime.
