Skywalk Construction Work Restarts After 8 Years of Delay

After being stalled for eight years, the construction of the long-awaited skywalk has resumed. With newly allocated resources, the project aims to improve pedestrian safety and ease traffic congestion. Local residents are hopeful that this crucial infrastructure will finally be completed without further setbacks.

The construction work of the skywalk (foot overbridge) which has been incomplete for 8 years between Shastri Chowk to Jayastambh Chowk and Ambedkar Hospital Chowk in the capital Raipur is now going to start. After setting up a temporary office near Ambedkar Hospital, on Sunday, some employees and engineers of the construction agency were seen climbing the structure of the skywalk with the help of stairs and inspecting it. At the same time, construction of some structures of the skywalk has also been started in Bhilai. Raipur agency PSAA Construction Private Limited has been given the contract to complete the incomplete work of the skywalk. Construction work is being started after the contract and order are issued.

The structure is being tested

Due to incomplete construction work for a long time and lack of supervision, the structure of the skywalk has started deteriorating. It is feared that some other construction materials including iron girders are getting damaged. In view of this, the structure of the skywalk is being tested first. The site inspection of the previous skywalk has been done by the committee formed by the Chief Engineer. In the report, the condition of steel/nut bolts etc. of the structure under construction in all parts of the structure has been stated to be satisfactory. Rust has started at the welding places due to being in the open environment.
