In a bid to curb the rising number of road accidents and ensure public safety, a review meeting of the District Road Safety Committee was held in Jashpur on Tuesday. The meeting, chaired by Collector Rohit Vyas at the Collectorate conference hall, focused on enforcing traffic rules more strictly, especially against riders and drivers not wearing helmets or seatbelts.
The Collector directed officials to intensify challan action against violators, making it clear that negligence in following traffic norms would not be tolerated. Emphasising public safety, he said strict enforcement was essential to prevent avoidable loss of life.
Senior Superintendent of Police Shashi Mohan Singh, who was present at the meeting, stated that stringent action would be taken district-wide against drunk driving. He said violations of traffic laws would be dealt with firmly, as protecting citizens’ lives remains the top priority of the police administration.
Strict Action Against Sale of Intoxicants Near Schools
Collector Vyas also instructed officials to ensure immediate legal action against anyone found selling intoxicants within 100 metres of school premises. He stressed the need for close coordination between the administration and the police to enforce this directive effectively.
During the meeting, the Collector directed the Chief Medical and Health Officer to ensure that post-mortem reports are shared promptly with the police through online platforms. This, he said, would help avoid delays in investigations and ensure smoother judicial proceedings.
Heightened Monitoring at Identified Black Spots
SSP Shashi Mohan Singh informed the committee that 10 accident-prone locations have been identified as black spots across the district. To prevent mishaps, officials have been instructed to carry out regular inspections at these locations, including during night hours.
He further directed that challan action against traffic rule violators should continue without interruption. At the same time, awareness campaigns will be conducted to encourage the use of helmets and seatbelts among the general public.
The administration reiterated its commitment to stricter enforcement and public awareness to improve road safety across Jashpur district.
