Brother, Friends Arrested for Killing Sister’s Boyfriend and Dumping Body in Pond in Chhattisgarh

A 27-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his girlfriend’s brother and five accomplices in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district after he visited the area to meet her during Valentine’s week, police said. Six accused — including four minors — have been detained, with the two adults sent to judicial custody.

The victim, identified as Rahul Chauhan from Sarangarh, had reportedly been in a relationship with a woman from Shivrinarayan. Investigators said he came to meet her on Feb. 11 under the pretext of visiting a local fair. The girl’s brother allegedly disapproved of the relationship and was upset about their phone conversations.

Police said Rahul met the woman and later went to the fair. Around 6 p.m., while returning, he was allegedly surrounded by the brother and five associates. Armed with small knives, the group attacked him, stabbing his face, stomach and hands. He died from his injuries at the scene. The attackers then allegedly dumped his body into a nearby pond in an attempt to conceal the crime.

The body was discovered about two hours later in Purena pond near Dharadei village after locals alerted police. Officers recovered the corpse with the help of villagers and launched an investigation. Identification was confirmed through family members after authorities contacted them.

According to investigators, Rahul had told his family he was going to the fair with a friend. That friend fled during the attack but was later located by police and questioned. His statement led officers to the suspects.

During interrogation, the minor brother allegedly confessed to orchestrating the assault with his friends. Police subsequently detained all six accused. The four juveniles were sent to a juvenile detention facility, while the two adult suspects — identified as Komal Karsh, 23, and Rajveer Anant, 19 — were produced in court and remanded to jail.

Police officials said the minor sibling appeared to be the mastermind and described the group as having a history of delinquent behavior. Investigators also stated that the accused were accustomed to carrying knives.

Authorities have registered a murder case and said further investigation is underway.
