Trafficker Arrested with Cannabis Oil Worth ₹52 Lakh in Jagdalpur

Police in Chhattisgarh’s Jagdalpur have arrested a man from Odisha for allegedly trafficking cannabis oil worth more than ₹52 lakh. The accused was reportedly waiting for a buyer when the police intercepted him in the Bodhghat police station area.

According to officials, around 4.170 litres of cannabis oil were recovered from the accused, estimated to be worth approximately ₹52.12 lakh in the illegal market. The seizure was made near Jhanda Chowk in Adawal.

Police said they received specific information that a man wearing a blue shirt and carrying a bag was standing near Jhanda Chowk and was suspected to have arrived from Odisha to sell contraband. Acting on the tip-off, Jagdalpur Superintendent of Police Shalabh Sinha constituted a team under the leadership of Bodhghat police station in-charge Leeladhar Rathore.

The team reached the spot and detained a man matching the description provided by the informer. During questioning, he identified himself as Amit Kumar Bag (47), a resident of Odisha. When police searched the bag he was carrying, they recovered about 4.170 litres of oil suspected to be cannabis extract.

A forensic team was called to the spot to examine the seized substance. Preliminary tests confirmed that the liquid was cannabis oil. Following this confirmation, the police formally arrested the accused.

Officials said the seized cannabis oil has an estimated market value of ₹52.12 lakh. The accused has been produced before the court and sent to judicial custody.

Jagdalpur City Superintendent of Police Sumit Kumar said that action against those involved in cannabis oil trafficking is being carried out continuously. He added that police are keeping a close watch on inter-state drug networks and will intensify operations to curb the smuggling of narcotic substances in the region.

Further investigation is underway to identify possible links and buyers connected to the accused.
