In a heartbreaking incident from Chhattisgarh's Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur district, a young couple was found hanging from the same noose in a forest area near Balagaon village. The two were reportedly in a romantic relationship, but their families allegedly opposed their union due to caste differences.
The deceased have been identified as Amar Singh (24), a resident of Ghutra in Saraitola gram panchayat, and Champa Bai Agariya (20), from a nearby neighborhood in the same village. Both had been missing since Thursday night, and their families had been searching for them, fearing that they had eloped.
On Sunday morning, villagers who had ventured into the forest spotted the bodies hanging from a tree near the banks of the Ghaghi River. The bodies had begun decomposing and emitted a foul odor, prompting them to alert the local police.
Manendragarh Kotwali Police reached the scene and confirmed the couple had died by suicide. The bodies were later sent for postmortem and handed over to their respective families.
According to sources, the couple had been in a relationship for several years. However, the difference in their castes created tension, and their families were unwilling to accept their decision to marry.
In a disturbing twist, it was revealed that Amar Singh's family has a tragic history—his father, Prem Singh, and one of his sisters had also died by suicide in the past, raising serious concerns about the mental health and support systems within the family.
The community remains in shock, mourning the loss of two young lives that could not overcome the societal barriers of caste.
