Digital Desk
A heartbreaking incident in Korba district has left everyone in shock.
An 8-year-old boy, Shivam Sarathi, tragically died after a coin got stuck in his chest. The family had no idea when or how the child had swallowed the coin.
When his condition suddenly worsened, the family rushed him to the district hospital, where an examination revealed that a coin was lodged in his chest.
Doctors refused treatment, child died en route
According to the family, doctors at the district hospital said that the boy’s condition was critical and that treatment was not possible there. They referred him to another hospital.
However, while being taken to a private hospital, Shivam died on the way.
The incident has raised serious questions about the functioning of the hospital.
Family had come to Korba for treatment, tragedy struck unexpectedly
Originally from Dharamjaygarh in Raigarh district, Madan Sarathi had come to Korba with his son for treatment of a shoulder injury.
After the treatment, the family stayed at a relative’s house in Godhi village, where the tragic incident occurred.
Condition worsened at night, X-ray revealed the truth
On Friday night, Shivam’s hands and feet suddenly turned cold, and he started having difficulty breathing.
When he was brought to the district hospital, an X-ray revealed a coin stuck in his chest, obstructing his airway.
Family accuses doctors of negligence
The child’s father alleged that instead of providing immediate and serious medical care, doctors negligently referred the case elsewhere.
He claimed that timely treatment could have saved his son’s life and demanded strict action from the health department.
Police investigation underway, awaiting post-mortem report
Upon receiving information, the district hospital outpost police arrived and recorded the family’s statements.
The body has been sent for post-mortem, and police said that the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the report is received.
Questions raised again over health infrastructure
Local residents expressed concern that the district hospital lacks adequate emergency facilities.
They said that the frequent referral of patients has cost many lives that could have been saved with timely medical intervention.
