Train Services Halted Due to Landslide Risk; Private Operators Overcharge Passengers

With train services suspended due to landslide threats, passengers are facing hardship as private travel operators exploit the situation by charging exorbitant fares, prompting outrage and demand for regulation.

Bastar MP Mahesh Kashyap has informed that due to landslides, the operation of passenger trains has been temporarily stopped for safety reasons. He said that the safety of lives and property of people is paramount, so the railway has taken this decision. The MP said that there has been a massive landslide in the Malliguda and Jardi Valley area located between Koraput and Jaipur.
The railways had repaired the track within 48 hours in the first phase, but about 25 thousand cubic meters of soil had accumulated on the track, which could have endangered the safety of passengers. In view of this, it was decided to temporarily stop the operation of passenger trains.

He said that when this incident happened, at that time a passenger train had passed and another train was about to come, which was stopped in time for safety reasons. At present, the operation of goods trains is continuing because there is less chance of loss of life due to the lack of passengers in it. MP Kashyap said that he has discussed with the DRM (Railway Divisional Manager) and he has been assured that as soon as the situation becomes normal, all passenger trains will resume their operations soon.
