Speeding and negligence once again proved fatal in Surguja district on Sunday evening, as two separate road accidents claimed one life and left four others seriously injured. Both incidents occurred under Udaipur and Darima police station limits, with police confirming that none of the victims were wearing helmets at the time.
The first accident took place on the Udaipur–Ramgarh main road. According to reports, 42-year-old Baisakhu Ram, a resident of Palka village, was returning home around 7 p.m. when an unidentified speeding vehicle hit his motorcycle near Bagapara Ground.
He fell onto the road and sustained severe head injuries, dying on the spot. Police noted that he was not wearing a helmet, which likely made the injuries fatal.
Upon receiving information, Udaipur police reached the scene, sent the body for post-mortem, and launched a search for the unidentified vehicle. Locals have demanded stricter speed monitoring and increased night patrolling on the route.
Four Injured in Head-On Collision Near Darima
The second incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. near the Kharra River bridge on the Ambikapur–Darima highway. Two motorcycles collided head-on, leaving four young men seriously injured. One bike was heading toward Darima, while the other was coming from the opposite direction.
The impact was so severe that all riders were thrown onto the road. None of them were wearing helmets. Two suffered major head injuries, while the other two sustained multiple fractures.
A Dial-112 rescue team rushed to the spot and shifted all four injured to Ambikapur Medical College Hospital, where doctors said the condition of two remains critical. Police have seized both motorcycles and begun an investigation.
Police Urge Helmet Use and Safe Driving
Officers emphasized that both accidents could have been avoided if the riders had worn helmets. Surguja Police have appealed to citizens to follow traffic safety rules and always wear helmets while riding two-wheelers.
