Around 1:30 a.m., an unidentified vehicle ran over seven cattle sitting by the roadside near Samta Rangmanch, killing all of them on the spot and leaving three others seriously injured.
Previous Incidents of Cattle Road Accidents
This area has been known for frequent cattle-related road accidents. Cow protectors (gau sevaks) reported that just last week, two cattle were also hit by an unidentified vehicle, and they are still being treated at the veterinary hospital.
Incident Details
At around 1:30 a.m., a truck coming from Raipur on NH-30 ran over the cattle sitting by the roadside and fled the scene. One of the dead cattle was found lying by the road. According to local residents, some people abandon their cattle near the Markatola Valley area, causing them to wander along the roadside at night.
Cattle Wander in Search of Food
Residents said the cattle often come near roads at night in search of food and end up becoming victims of accidents. Many times, their owners cannot even be identified. Uttam Sahu, the councilor of Ward No. 13, expressed concern over the incident.
Road Safety and Administrative Appeal
The councilor stated that non-functioning streetlights and poor road maintenance are the main causes of such accidents. He urged the administration to suspend toll tax collection temporarily and ensure adequate lighting and safety measures on the roads so that both cattle and citizens remain safe.
