Youth Killed in Truck Collision on Durg–Patan Road; FIR Filed in Separate Bike Accident Case After 14 Days

A 35-year-old man lost his life after being hit by a heavy truck on the Durg–Patan main road, while in a separate incident in the district, police have registered an FIR against a bike rider 14 days after a young woman died in a road accident. Both cases have raised questions over rash driving and delays in legal action.

The fatal truck accident occurred late on the night of January 8 near Daimar village, under Patan police station limits. The deceased, identified as Ark Singh, was returning home to the government hospital quarters in Patan after visiting his grandmother, who was admitted to Shankaraacharya Hospital in Bhilai. Around 11:30 pm, as he reached near Raju Dhaba on his motorcycle, a Hyva truck coming from behind allegedly rammed into his bike at high speed.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck driver was driving rashly and failed to control the vehicle, causing Singh to be thrown onto the road with severe impact. Patan police rushed the critically injured man to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Patan. Despite medical treatment, Singh succumbed to his injuries on the night of January 9. Doctors confirmed that multiple serious injuries to his head, face, and body led to his death.

Police officials said the truck involved bore registration number CG07 BP 7880. Singh’s father, Vijay Bahadur Singh, lodged a complaint accusing the driver of negligent and dangerous driving. Patan SDOP Anoop Lakda confirmed that a case has been registered and further legal action is being initiated against the driver under charges related to causing death by negligence.

Singh’s wife is employed as a nurse at the Patan government hospital. Family members said Singh had earlier gone to Mumbai in search of work and was currently unemployed, staying in Bhilai at the time of the incident. Police also stated that while a past domestic complaint involving the deceased is on record, it has no direct connection to the accident and will not affect the probe.

In another case, police have registered an FIR 14 days after a 23-year-old woman died in a bike accident in Durg district. The incident took place on December 26, 2025, under Pulgaon police station limits. The victim, Chitrelekha Dhankar, was riding pillion on a motorcycle driven by Duleshwar Dhankar when the bike lost balance between Khursul and Manghata turn and crashed.

Chitrelekha suffered fatal head injuries and was declared dead at a hospital in Somni. Initially registered as an accidental death, police have now booked the rider for culpable homicide not amounting to murder following detailed investigation and witness statements.
