Bhopal,M.P
Preparations are underway in Madhya Pradesh for a big change in urban body elections. Now, the public will directly elect the president, overturning the earlier decision of the Kamal Nath government. This move is expected to significantly impact local governance and political equations.
A big news has come out regarding the urban body elections in Madhya Pradesh. Now the President of Nagar Palika and Nagar Parishad will be elected directly by the public. This decision has been taken by the Mohan Yadav government of Madhya Pradesh, under which the decision of the Kamal Nath government's indirect election system will be overturned through an ordinance.
Attempt to stop horse-trading of councilors and misuse of money power
Earlier, in 2018, the Kamal Nath government of Congress had decided to conduct the election of Nagar Palika and Nagar Parishad presidents through indirect system i.e. through councilors. But now the current government has decided to change it and implement the direct system. Its purpose is to stop the horse-trading of councilors and misuse of money power. Also, the government has changed the rules related to no-confidence motion against the presidents.
No no-confidence motion can be brought against the president before 4 years
Now the minimum period for bringing a no-confidence motion against the presidents of Nagar Palika and Nagar Parishad has been increased from 3 years to 4 and a half years. This means that no no-confidence motion can be brought against the president before 4 years. This change will once again give the public the right to directly elect its president after 2014. This move is expected to increase transparency and democratic participation in urban bodies.
