Madhya Pradesh MLA Salary Hike Decision Expected Before Winter Session

A decision on increasing the salaries and allowances for MLAs and former MLAs in Madhya Pradesh is likely soon. A high-level committee formed by the state government is set to submit its proposal within a month, ahead of the upcoming Winter Session of the Legislative Assembly.

The committee, constituted by the General Administration Department on October 27, includes Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda, MLA Ajay Vishnoi, and MLA Sachin Yadav. Its mandate is to review the current salaries, allowances, pensions, and other facilities for the state's legislators.

The panel held its first meeting on October 28. During the discussions, the members sought a detailed, state-wise comparative report on the emoluments and benefits provided to MLAs across India. The Parliamentary Affairs Department has been tasked with compiling this data.

The committee will reconvene on November 11 to review the compiled information. Based on this analysis, it will finalize its recommendations. The final report is expected to be submitted to the government by November 30.

This timeline allows the state cabinet to consider the proposal and potentially introduce a bill for approval during the Winter Session, which begins on December 1. The demand for a hike was initially raised by both ruling and opposition MLAs, including Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar, during the Monsoon Session, with Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav assuring a review.
