A horrific crime has sent shockwaves through Madhya Pradesh's Rajgarh district after a disturbing video surfaced showing a 70-year-old woman bleeding profusely from her face, her tongue and nose brutally severed, as bystanders desperately asked, "Kaki, who attacked you?"
The one-and-a-half-minute footage, which emerged two days after the incident, has intensified public outrage and raised disturbing questions about the circumstances surrounding the elderly woman's death on March 4. Police have since taken the victim's grandson into custody for questioning as the investigation deepens.
The Chilling Video Evidence
In the graphic video, the elderly woman is seen lying in a field, covered in blood with horrific injuries to her face. Despite being in obvious agony, she struggles to respond as concerned villagers gather around her.
Throughout the footage, multiple voices can be heard repeatedly asking: "Kaki, who attacked you? Who came here?" The injured woman attempts to speak but her words are unintelligible—a consequence of her severed tongue. At one point, a bystander acknowledges that she is in no condition to communicate.
The woman was discovered in this critical state in the Bhojpur police station area, leading to her immediate hospitalization at Khilchipur Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Crime Scene Raises Suspicion
Investigators who visited the spot found disturbing evidence that has expanded the scope of their inquiry. A cot was discovered near where the woman lay injured, with blood splattered across it—prompting police to consider the possibility of sexual assault.
Forensic teams have collected evidence from the location, and authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death.
"We are investigating all angles," a senior police official told reporters. "The grandson has been taken into custody and is being questioned thoroughly. We are waiting for the post-mortem report, which will provide crucial insights into the case."
Family Background and Timeline
The victim, whose identity has been withheld by authorities, lived with her son and daughter-in-law in a small hut built on their agricultural land, approximately one kilometer from the main village. The family's circumstances shed light on the elderly woman's living situation:
- The family had been living apart from relatives for about 30 years
- The woman's husband passed away two years ago
- Three sons and one daughter comprise the rest of the family
- Currently, one son, his wife, and their mother (the victim) shared the hut
On the night of the incident, the woman was left alone after her son went to irrigate a nearby field and her daughter-in-law had departed for Rajasthan 10 days earlier for labor work with her family.
Son's Account of the Discovery
The victim's son provided a detailed account of how the body was discovered. After returning from irrigation work late Tuesday night, he went to sleep unaware of the tragedy unfolding nearby.
"On Wednesday morning, when I woke up to make tea, my mother was not there," he explained. "Initially, I thought she had gone to the village for some errand. But when she couldn't be found there, we started searching the surrounding fields."
The family eventually located her in the middle of a wheat field, a short distance from their hut, in the severely injured condition captured in the now-viral video.
Investigation Ongoing
Police have not yet confirmed a motive for the brutal attack, and authorities emphasize that the grandson's detention is part of routine investigation procedures. The post-mortem report, expected in the coming days, will likely determine the direction of further legal action.
"This is a complex case with many unanswered questions," a police spokesperson stated. "We are examining all evidence, including the video footage, and following every lead."
