Woman Dies After Blood Transfusion in Neemuch District Hospital; Relatives Assault Police, Vandalise ICU Gate

A tragic incident unfolded at Neemuch District Hospital when a 25-year-old woman, Tina Meena, died on Saturday night, just three days after delivering her second child. The family has alleged medical negligence and adverse reaction to blood transfusion as the cause of death, while hospital authorities claim all possible efforts were made to save her.

What Happened at Neemuch District Hospital?

Tina Meena, a resident of Achari in Rajasthan, had successfully delivered a baby three days earlier and was reportedly stable. Due to low haemoglobin levels, she was given a blood transfusion during the day. However, her condition suddenly deteriorated in the evening. She was shifted to the ICU around 9 PM and declared dead within an hour despite emergency treatment by seven specialist doctors.

Family Alleges Blood Transfusion Reaction and Delay in Treatment

The grieving family, including Tina’s mother, claimed that the patient suffered a severe reaction immediately after the blood transfusion. They further alleged:

- Doctors arrived late when her condition worsened

- Money was paid to a doctor before the earlier delivery, raising questions of negligence

- Delayed response led to the tragic outcome

Chaos Erupts: Relatives Vandalise Hospital, Assault Police

As news of Tina’s death spread, enraged relatives created ruckus at the hospital:

- ICU gate was broken and vandalised

- Paediatrician Dr Yogendra Dhakad was surrounded and manhandled

- A policeman who tried to intervene was slapped by an elderly relative

- Doctors and staff were pushed and threatened

Additional police force from Cantt Police Station was called to control the situation. The agitated family was pacified after prolonged efforts.

Husband Collapses After Wife’s Death

Tina’s husband, Prahlad Meena, fainted upon hearing the news and had to be admitted to the same hospital for treatment.

Post-Mortem to Reveal Exact Cause of Death

The body was shifted to the mortuary around midnight. Hospital authorities, including Dr Lal Dhakad, stated that the exact cause of death – whether blood transfusion reaction, medical negligence, or any other complication – will only be confirmed after the post-mortem report.

This incident has once again highlighted concerns over patient safety, blood transfusion reactions, and handling of post-delivery complications in government hospitals in Madhya Pradesh.
