Four youths were brutally beaten by a group of nearly 20 men who stormed a residential colony in Bhopal’s Shahpura area in the early hours of Friday. The attack, captured on CCTV and circulated later in the day, followed a road accident that escalated into a heated confrontation.
Police said the victims Shekhar, son of SAGE University professor Vishakha Srivastava, and his friends Akash, Vishal, and Nawal were returning from Arera Hills around 2 am when their motorcycle collided with a car bearing registration number MP 04 CM 0568. An argument broke out at the spot, prompting Dial-112 personnel to intervene and escort the youths back to their home in Rohit Nagar’s covered campus.
However, the conflict did not end there. According to investigators, the group of accused youths followed them to the colony. Around 4 am, they allegedly gathered outside the house, shouted threats, and demanded the victims step out. Minutes later, nearly 20 men armed with sticks and wooden rods forced their way into the campus and launched a coordinated assault.
CCTV footage shows the attackers surrounding the four youths and repeatedly striking them with sticks. Residents reported chaos in the colony as the group created a ruckus before fleeing the scene. All four victims sustained injuries and were later taken to the hospital for treatment.
Shahpura police reached the spot after receiving a call from residents. An FIR has been registered against unidentified attackers based on the video evidence, and teams have begun efforts to trace the accused.
Authorities said the investigation is focused on identifying the car occupants involved in the initial confrontation and establishing how the group mobilised for the retaliatory attack. Police officials added that additional footage from nearby cameras is being examined to track the attackers' movements before and after the assault
