The legacy of Nawab Hamidullah has sparked a heated political debate in Bhopal, with parties clashing over whether to remember him as a patriot or a traitor, turning history into a battleground.

Politics on the Nawab Hamidullah Khan issue arising out of the name change in the meeting of Bhopal Municipal Council is not stopping. BJP leaders along with the government ministers are loudly calling Nawab Hamidullah a traitor. On the other hand, Congress is calling it a violation of history.

On Friday, Minister of State for Health Narendra Shivaji Patel said that even after the country got independence, the Bhopal Nawab did not agree to merge with India. Not only this, even after the country got independence, the Nawab did not allow the tricolor to be hoisted in Bhopal. Those who hoisted the national flag in Bhopal were shot dead. The Nawab who fired bullets on the people of the country in independent India cannot be a patriot.
