The recent horrific truck accident in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, has once again raised questions about road safety and administrative negligence. The Jabalpur High Court, taking a tough stand on the matter, ordered the Indore Police Commissioner to produce CCTV footage of the truck accident. The court also asked the state government and police to explain how such a large truck managed to reach a busy residential area despite the no-entry rule in place.
Three people died in the accident
Three people tragically died in this accident, while more than 35 were injured. The incident occurred on Indore's Airport Road, where the speeding truck went out of control and ran over people and vehicles for about a kilometer. Two people died on the spot, while one died during treatment in the hospital. The injured are undergoing treatment in various hospitals. A division bench of High Court Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Justice Vinay Saraf took suo motu cognizance of the case and registered it as a public interest litigation. The Police Commissioner appeared virtually during the hearing, while the DCP Traffic was present in person.

According to an affidavit filed in court, Indore Police has suspended nine officers in connection with the case. The Police Commissioner stated that the investigation is ongoing and strict action will be taken if negligence is exposed. A charge sheet will also be filed soon. However, the court termed it a major failure of law and order, saying that such an accident could have been avoided if strict rules had not been followed.
