Security arrangements have been intensified in Gwalior ahead of the arrival of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is scheduled to reach the city on Wednesday night and attend official programmes on Thursday. Police have announced traffic diversions along the airport–Nadigate route from 7 pm to 10 pm on Wednesday and across multiple sectors from 9 am to 4 pm on Thursday.
According to the district administration, Shah will land in Gwalior around 9 pm on December 24 and proceed directly to a hotel near Nadigate, where he will stay overnight. His main public engagement is scheduled at the Gwalior Mela Ground on December 25, coinciding with events marking the 101st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the MP Growth Summit.
To ensure security, around 1,200 police personnel will be deployed at the Mela Ground, while an additional 1,500 officers will be stationed in shifts along the airport-to-hotel corridor. Authorities have also earmarked 25 parking zones with capacity for 935 buses, 1,200 cars and nearly 4,500 two-wheelers.
Police on Tuesday conducted a full-scale motorcade rehearsal to assess security and traffic management. During the drill, traffic was halted and diverted at all major intersections and three-way junctions along the designated route, with nearly 1,000 personnel deployed for the exercise.
The traffic police have advised commuters to avoid key stretches, including Gola Ka Mandir Chauraha, Maharajagate, Racecourse Road, Moti Tabela, Baijatal, Nadigate and Shinde Ki Chhawani during the diversion period. Vehicles from Bhind and Morena will be rerouted through Laxmangarh and Nirawali respectively, while alternative corridors have been designated for traffic heading towards Datia, Jhansi and Shivpuri.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and BJP state president Hemant Khandelwal are scheduled to arrive in Gwalior on Wednesday afternoon to review arrangements and receive the Union Home Minister at the airport. Shah is expected to depart the city on Thursday afternoon after concluding his engagements.
