Bhind police are investigating the death of 20-year-old Jyoti Ken, a college student from Phase-2, Bhind, whose body was recovered from the Chambal River on 2 December. Authorities are treating the case as a suicide, but Jyoti’s family alleges foul play and has demanded the immediate arrest of five classmates.
According to the family, Jyoti sent a lengthy WhatsApp message to her brother shortly before her death, in which she accused classmates of blackmail and mental harassment. She claimed that Deepak had threatened her and circulated her private photos to Kajal and Chhaya, while Rajan had allegedly deceived her into a relationship despite being engaged. Jyoti’s message concluded with the words, “I lost,” indicating she could no longer cope with the harassment.
Based on this complaint, police have registered an FIR against the five students named by Jyoti: Kajal, Chhaya, Deepak, Pawan Rajawat, and Rajan. No arrests have been made so far, and the investigation is ongoing. SDOP Ravindra Vaskale stated, “While the incident appears to be a suicide initially, all angles are being examined, and technical evidence is being collected to ascertain the truth.”
Jyoti had left her home on the afternoon of 2 December, telling her family she was going to PM Shri MJS College. Her body was later recovered from the Chambal River. Her college bag was found nearby containing water and alcohol bottles, which have added to the investigation’s complexity.
The student’s last rites were performed on Thursday, three days after her death. Initially, the family refused to collect the body, alleging that she had been forced to take her own life. They continued their protest until police registered the FIR and clarified the procedural steps, after which the family consented to the cremation.
Jyoti’s family has alleged that she had been subjected to long-term harassment and pressure, describing her death as part of a deliberate conspiracy rather than an isolated incident. Police have assured a thorough investigation into the matter.
