Bhopal’s Piplani Police Under Scrutiny Again: Officers Accused of Negligence in Road Accident Death Investigation; SHO Denies Claims

Just days after two constables from Bhopal's Piplani police station were involved in a controversial incident where they allegedly beat Udit Gayaki, the brother-in-law of a DSP, to death, the Piplani police are facing fresh allegations. This time, the family of a man who died in a road accident has accused the police of negligence in informing them about his death. The family claims that despite the police having possession of the deceased's scooter, mobile phone, and identity documents, they failed to notify them for three days.

The deceased, 55-year-old Ram Bahadur, was a chef at a restaurant in the Ratnagiri area and lived in Jheel Nagar, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Ayodhya Nagar police station.

The Accident Occurred on the Night of October 19-20, 2025

Ram Bahadur’s brother, Neemkant Bahadur, told Bhaskar English that the accident happened on the night of October 19-20, 2025, when his brother was returning home from work on his moped. A two-wheeler coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with his scooter, causing Ram Bahadur's death on the spot.

An ambulance took him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The Piplani Police seized the scooter from the accident site and sent the unidentified body to Gandhi Medical College mortuary, Neemkant claimed.

Family Alleges Police Ignored Key Evidence in the Moped

The family alleges that Ram Bahadur’s mobile phone and Aadhaar card were found inside the storage compartment of the moped, and that the keys were with the police. Despite this, the police allegedly did not check the vehicle. They pointed out that Ram’s mobile phone was still on and showed several missed calls from family members, but the police reportedly ignored these calls.

Additionally, the scooter was registered to their home address, but the police apparently made no attempt to contact them earlier. The family believes this delay caused the body to decompose, as the post-mortem was only conducted after identification on Thursday.

Family Learned of Ram’s Death While Filing a Missing Person Report

Ram Bahadur’s son, Satish, said that the family initially thought his father had stayed overnight at the restaurant, as he often did during busy times. When he didn’t return after Diwali, they contacted his workplace and learned that he had left for home on October 19.

On October 22, while the family was preparing to file a missing person’s report, the Piplani Police arrived and informed them of his death, three days after the accident.

Piplani Police SHO Denies Negligence

When contacted by Bhaskar English, the Piplani police station’s SHO, Chandrika Yadav, denied any negligence. He claimed that no identification documents were found near the body.

“Our team showed photographs in nearby areas to help identify Ram Bahadur. Once the family was located, the post-mortem was conducted, and further legal procedures are underway,” Yadav said.
