Bhopal Police Brutality Case: Engineer Beaten to Death Sparks Murder Charges

Two police constables in Bhopal have been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly beating 22-year-old engineer Udit Gayaki to death in a shocking case of custodial violence that has been captured on CCTV footage.

Fatal Assault Captured on Video

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday in Bhopal's Indrapuri area under Piplani police station, where constables Santosh Bamaniya and Saurabh Arya brutally assaulted the BTech student. Disturbing CCTV footage shows Udit running semi-naked while being chased by officers, with one constable holding him while another repeatedly struck him with a baton.

The viral video footage reveals the horrific nature of the assault, showing police officers stripping Udit of his shirt and beating him mercilessly against a wall. Witnesses reported that the constables demanded Rs 10,000 as a bribe to "settle the matter" related to public drinking.youtube+1

Victim's Background and Fatal Injuries

Udit Gayaki, the brother-in-law of DSP Ketan Adlak posted in Balaghat's anti-Naxal Hawk Force, had recently graduated from Technocrats Institute of Technology (TIT) College and was celebrating with friends after receiving a job offer from a Bengaluru IT firm. His father Rajkumar Gayaki works as an engineer with the Madhya Pradesh Electricity Board, while his mother is a teacher.

The post-mortem examination conducted by a five-member medical panel revealed traumatic hemorrhagic pancreatitis as the cause of death, with over a dozen external injuries across Udit's body including his shoulders, waist, abdomen, and private areas. The autopsy confirmed a ruptured pancreas caused by blunt force trauma, indicating the severity of the assault.

Legal Action and Investigation

Following public outrage and the emergence of CCTV evidence, both constables were arrested late Saturday night and produced in court on Sunday. They have been charged under Sections 103(1) for murder, 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt, and 3(5) for common intention under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The accused officers, who were immediately suspended after the incident, are currently in judicial custody as investigations continue with witness testimonies and digital forensics. Police have seized the wooden stick used in the assault as evidence.

Family Demands Justice

Udit's father has demanded a CBI investigation, expressing distrust in the local police probe. "My son was killed by policemen, so we cannot expect a fair investigation from them. The accused policemen should be given the death penalty," Rajkumar Gayaki stated. The family has criticized flaws in the initial FIR and alleged that police coerced witnesses into giving statements that omitted details of the brutal assault.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has ordered strict action in the case, emphasizing that the law applies equally to all regardless of position. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation of police brutality and raised serious questions about custodial violence in Madhya Pradesh.
