Bhopal Rural SP Accused of Harassment by Sub-Inspector; Departmental Inquiry Ordered

A departmental inquiry has been ordered after a sub-inspector posted in Bhopal’s rural police district accused the Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) of abuse, intimidation and sustained mental harassment. The allegations, made by Sub-Inspector KC Yadav of Sukhi Sewania police station, have triggered concern within the police department and prompted intervention by senior authorities.

In a written complaint submitted to the Inspector General (IG), Director General of Police (DGP), the Chief Minister and the Human Rights Commission, SI Yadav accused Rural SP Ramsharan Prajapati of verbally abusing him inside the SP office and threatening to throw him out when he protested. The SI stated that the incident occurred on September 14, 2025.

According to the complaint, the SP had summoned Yadav to discuss a case diary related to an Excise Act matter. After the meeting, when the sub-inspector requested the diary back to forward it to the High Court, the SP allegedly reacted angrily, used abusive language and directed him to collect the document from the concerned Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP).

Yadav said he recorded the incident in the police station’s daily diary after returning to duty. He alleged that once the SP became aware of this entry, he reprimanded him again over the phone. Subsequently, two departmental inquiries were initiated against the sub-inspector in separate matters.

In his complaint to senior authorities, Yadav described the alleged harassment as mentally distressing and said it pushed him into a state of extreme anxiety. He wrote that if justice was not delivered, his letter should be treated as a suicide note. He later clarified that he refrained from taking any extreme step after counselling by colleagues and consideration of his family responsibilities.

“This is the first time in my nearly 30 years of service that I have faced such conduct,” Yadav wrote, adding that the alleged harassment over the past four months had become unbearable.

The sub-inspector also claimed that several junior officers, including women personnel, were facing similar treatment but were reluctant to come forward due to fear of repercussions. He said approaching senior officers was his only remaining option.

This is not the first time SP Ramsharan Prajapati has been linked to controversy. In November last year, he ordered the line attachment of a station in-charge in the rural district, an order that was withdrawn within 24 hours following objections and public backlash. The SP later termed that move an administrative decision.

When contacted for his response to the current allegations, SP Prajapati did not respond to calls or messages. Senior police officials said the complaint is under examination and that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.12
