Bhopal Youth Allegedly Held Hostage and Assaulted in Rajasthan; Police Team Sent for Rescue

An 18-year-old youth from Bhopal was allegedly held hostage and brutally assaulted for three days in a village in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district, prompting Madhya Pradesh police to dispatch a team to secure his release. The case came to light after a video of the assault was sent to the victim’s family, triggering panic and an urgent police complaint.

According to police, the victim, identified as Sonu, a resident of the Kolar area of Bhopal, was in a relationship with a girl from Puloro village under the Dangipura police station limits in Jhalawar. Investigators say Sonu was lured to Rajasthan on the girl’s insistence, where he was allegedly captured by her family members and local villagers.

The family of the victim alleged that Sonu was confined, beaten mercilessly and humiliated. During the assault, the accused recorded a video in which Sonu was allegedly forced to drink a liquid from a beer bottle. The clip was sent to his family in Bhopal. Relatives who later approached Kolar police station claimed the liquid was urine, though this allegation is yet to be independently verified by authorities.

Police sources said the sequence of events began about 15 days ago when the girl came to Bhopal and started living with Sonu. Around 10 days ago, her family reportedly arrived in the city and, after counselling her, took her back to Rajasthan. Three days ago, Sonu received a call from the girl asking him to come and take her back. Acting on this request, he travelled to Puloro village, where he was allegedly ambushed.

“The youth has been held captive for the past three days. The video was deliberately sent to intimidate the family,” a police official said.

After receiving the clip, Sonu’s family immediately approached Kolar police station on Sunday afternoon and filed a complaint. Following this, Bhopal police coordinated with Rajasthan authorities and dispatched a team from Rajgarh to the location.

Kolar police station in-charge Sanjay Soni said the immediate focus is on the victim’s safety. “The incident occurred in Rajasthan, but our priority is to safely extract the youth. Rajasthan police have been informed in detail and necessary legal action is being initiated,” he said.

Police said further sections will be added once Sonu is rescued and his statement is recorded. Authorities are also examining the video and other electronic evidence.

The incident has raised concerns over vigilante violence linked to personal relationships, and police said strict action would be taken against those found responsible.
