In a major development ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Madhya Pradesh, the state government has approved plans for ATR-72 aircraft operations from Ujjain. A key contract between the government and the Airport Authority of India (AAI) for the expansion of Ujjain airstrip is set to be signed tomorrow, paving the way for enhanced regional connectivity.

In view of the increase in religious activities in Baba Mahakal's city Ujjain and Simhastha 2028, preparations for expansion of airport facilities have intensified. Ujjain air service is going to get a big gift a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Madhya Pradesh. Tomorrow i.e. on Friday, an important agreement is going to be signed between the Aviation Department of the MP government and the Airport Authority of India i.e. AAI.
There will be three contracts in the presence of AAI Chairman Vipin Kumar. The first contract will be about airport construction, while the second will be about operation and maintenance. At the same time, the third agreement will be about authorizing AAI for statutory permissions. AAI has demanded 241 acres of land for Ujjain airport. Currently 95 acres of land is available. The Aviation Department has given instructions to Ujjain District Administration for additional land.
With the expansion of airport facilities, the facility of operating aircraft like ATR-72 will be available from Ujjain. Ujjain will be the second city after Shivpuri, where a contract has been signed with AAI recently. The contract was signed in Shivpuri in October 2024. 59.30 acres of land is available there. AAI has demanded 45.89 acres of additional land. At the same time, 4 helipads are being built in Sadaval area of Ujjain. Their construction is almost complete.
