Bike Collides With Turning Truck at Ghattia Crossing; Ujjain Man Dies While Heading to Brother’s Funeral

A 56-year-old man riding a motorcycle was killed in a road accident at Ghattia crossing on Friday evening after a truck allegedly rammed into his bike while making a turn and fled the scene. The victim, identified as Mohanlal Solanki, was on his way to attend his brother’s funeral when the accident occurred. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a government hospital.

According to police, the accident took place around 4:30 pm at the Ghattia intersection on the Tanodiya–Mahidpur route. Mohanlal was riding his motorcycle towards Dhabla when a truck turning from Tanodiya towards Mahidpur struck his bike from behind. The impact threw him onto the road, leaving him critically injured.

Local residents and passersby rushed to help and immediately transported Mohanlal to the hospital. Despite medical intervention, doctors declared him dead during treatment. His body was later shifted to the government hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

CCTV footage from the area has surfaced, capturing the sequence of events. The footage reportedly shows the truck hitting the motorcycle and the driver fleeing the spot without stopping to assist the injured man. Police officials said the video is being examined to establish the exact cause of the accident and to identify the vehicle involved.

Mohanlal’s elder son, Sunil Solanki, said his father was a former driver and was familiar with the route. “We live on Ashok Mandi Marg in Ujjain. My father was going from Ghattia to Dhabla to attend his cousin brother’s funeral. The truck suddenly turned. My father’s bike was also moving at speed, and before he could recover, it collided with the truck,” he said.

Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and began an investigation. A case has been registered, and efforts are underway to trace the truck and apprehend the driver. Officers said traffic patterns, vehicle speed and right-of-way at the crossing are being analysed with the help of CCTV footage and witness statements.

The accident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety at busy intersections around Ujjain, particularly the risks posed by heavy vehicles making sudden turns without adequate caution. Residents have demanded stricter enforcement of traffic rules and better monitoring at accident-prone crossings.

Police officials said action will be taken against the truck driver once identified, and assured that hit-and-run cases are being treated with seriousness. Further investigation is ongoing.
