A dramatic confrontation within the BJP unfolded in Gwalior on Friday evening when local party leader Pappan Yadav blocked the car of MP Bharat Singh Kushwah and lay down on the road in protest over civic problems in the Bahodapur area.
The incident occurred during Kushwah’s inspection of Anand Nagar Park. Yadav, father of District Panchayat member Shivraj Yadav, approached the MP demanding an immediate visit to nearby toilets and lanes allegedly plagued by filth and poor maintenance. Witnesses said the MP declined to leave the park inspection mid-way, triggering a heated argument.
Enraged, Yadav suddenly lay down in front of Kushwah’s vehicle, shouting that an MP who does not address public grievances “has no right to hold office.” People present on the spot attempted to move him aside, but Yadav continued shouting and refused to get up. Eyewitnesses also reported that he hurled abuses at the MP during the altercation, creating visible discomfort among party workers.
The protest lasted several minutes and led to a brief standoff between supporters of both men. While tensions rose, local workers eventually persuaded Yadav to leave the road, restoring normalcy. The MP, visibly upset, did not comment to the media.
According to local sources, Yadav had been dissatisfied with the MP’s handling of issues such as unhygienic surroundings, deteriorating public toilets, and slow-paced development work in the area. He had reportedly raised these concerns multiple times without receiving concrete action, leading to the outburst on Friday.
Yadav is considered an influential figure in the region. His son, Shivraj Yadav, won the District Panchayat election as an independent candidate before joining the BJP in the presence of the Chief Minister.
The unusual public confrontation within a party known for discipline has sparked discussions among local cadres, who say the episode highlights simmering tensions over unresolved civic complaints. Further internal discussions are expected as party leaders review the incident.
