BJP MLA Narendra Prajapati Alleges Attack During Birthday Event in Rewa; One Accused Arrested

BJP MLA Narendra Prajapati from the Mangawan विधानसभा seat has alleged that he was attacked by two intoxicated men during his birthday programme in Rewa district. The incident occurred on January 25 at the Suranath Hanuman Temple complex in Mangawan and came into focus after a video of the altercation surfaced on Wednesday. Police have arrested one of the accused and launched an investigation based on the video evidence.

According to Prajapati, the two men arrived at the event in an inebriated condition and began misbehaving with those present. He alleged that when he objected, they verbally abused him and attempted to assault him. “They ran towards me to hit me. If my supporters had not intervened in time, anything could have happened,” the MLA said.

The video circulating on social media shows one of the accused repeatedly using abusive language against the MLA and jostling with party workers. In the footage, the man can be heard hurling foul remarks continuously before moving aggressively towards Prajapati. He was stopped midway by BJP workers and other attendees, preventing physical harm.

Prajapati further alleged that the accused also misbehaved with women present at the religious gathering. He expressed apprehension that the incident may have been premeditated and demanded a thorough investigation. “Both individuals are known criminals with several cases registered against them. The conspiracy behind who instigated them will come out during the probe,” he said.

An eyewitness at the event said one of the accused accused the MLA of wasting public money on the celebration and questioned whether the expenses were being borne from public funds. The remarks reportedly escalated tensions at the venue.

Police confirmed that one accused has been taken into custody, while efforts are underway to trace and arrest the second individual. Officials said statements of witnesses are being recorded and the video footage is being examined to determine the sequence of events and the intent of the accused.

A senior police officer said appropriate legal action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation. Security arrangements around public representatives in the area are also being reviewed following the incident.

The episode has sparked political reactions locally, with party workers terming the incident a serious breach of law and order at a public and religious function. Police have assured that no one will be spared if evidence points to criminal intent or conspiracy.
