BJP MLA Surendra Patwa Protests in Rain, Demands Action Over Attack on Hindu Youth
Raisen, MP
Despite heavy rain, BJP MLA Surendra Patwa staged a four-hour protest outside the Mandideep police station on Sunday, demanding swift action against those accused of assaulting a Hindu youth.
The protest began around 3 PM, with Patwa and party workers surrounding the station, calling for justice in a communal violence case stemming from a June 6 incident.
Incident Linked to Cattle Seizure
The protest traces back to an event on the eve of Eid, when two trucks transporting cattle were intercepted on the National Highway. Later that night, a youth named Ajay Malviya was attacked with sharp weapons near the police station. His injuries were severe, prompting BJP workers to demand immediate arrests.
Patwa presented photos of the injured youth to senior administrative officials, insisting that justice must be served without delay. The protest drew a significant police presence, including SP Pankaj Pandey and other high-ranking officers.
Demand to Invoke SC/ST Act
MLA Patwa emphasized that Ajay Malviya belongs to a Scheduled Caste and demanded that the SC/ST Act be invoked against the accused. He also accused local figures like Sohail Miyan of illegal land encroachment and timber trade, and requested eviction and legal action.
The BJP further demanded the suspension of SDOP Sheela Surana, alleging she was protecting the accused. Protesters called for a public march of the arrested suspects to “send a message of fear among criminals.”
Police Clarifies Arrest Progress
According to SDOP Surana, 14 individuals from both sides have already been arrested based on CCTV evidence and eyewitness reports. Three more arrests were made and presented in court on Sunday.
SP Pandey confirmed that Section 307 (attempt to murder) was added after the medical report was received, and said that police were actively pursuing the remaining suspects.
Communal Tension Sparked by Cattle Trucks
The June 6 incident began when Hindu youths stopped a truck loaded with buffaloes allegedly headed for a slaughterhouse. Slogans of "Jai Shri Ram" were chanted, leading to a tense standoff with members of the Muslim community outside the local police station.
The violence and cross-allegations have prompted wider political and communal concern, with the BJP now turning up the pressure on law enforcement.
