Call Records Reveal Key Lead in Gwalior MBBS Student’s Death as Police Probe Possible Suicide

The death of 19-year-old Yashraj Uike, a first-year MBBS student at Gajra Raja Medical College, has taken a significant turn after police retrieved his call detail records (CDR), bringing fresh focus on the minutes leading up to his fall from the third-floor terrace of the boys’ hostel on November 10.

Investigators confirmed that the last call Yashraj made  barely two minutes before he fellwas to a girl from his village, also a first-year student at the college. Officers said she received more calls from him than anyone else except family members, making their communication a central point of inquiry.

Yashraj’s mobile phone, found on the terrace from where he allegedly jumped, has been sent for forensic extraction. Police believe the device may contain crucial chats, voice notes and recordings that could clarify his emotional state and any possible triggers. A forensic team is attempting to retrieve deleted data as well.

Early confusion about whether Yashraj fell accidentally or deliberately led authorities to recreate the scene using a dummy matching his physique. Police now say the recreation indicates a deliberate jump rather than a slip. No eyewitness saw the moment he fell; security guards reached the spot only after hearing the impact.

A preliminary postmortem report found he landed on his back, sustaining extensive abdominal injuries and internal bleeding. Damage to his liver and multiple organs was identified as the immediate cause of death.

Yashraj’s father, Pancham Uike, who rushed from Betul upon hearing the news, described his son as disciplined and focused on studies. “He had no disputes. When he didn’t call that day, I assumed he was busy,” he said.

Police faced criticism for not calling forensic experts on the first day. A specialised team inspected the site two days later, prompting the detailed scene recreation. Investigators say the final conclusion will depend on the digital evidence retrieved from Yashraj’s phone, which they expect will shed light on the circumstances that led to his final moments.
