The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued important directives to the bank's management and the Cooperative Department regarding the denial of child care leave to female employees of the District Central Cooperative Bank, Jabalpur. Hearing a petition filed by petitioners Shinjini Dubey and others, the court ordered the relevant authorities to reach a final decision on the matter within 60 days.
The petitioners, female employees of the District Central Cooperative Bank, Jabalpur, were dissatisfied with the bank's lack of a child care leave provision for female employees. They argued that they were eligible for child care leave and that their children were under 18 years of age, but the bank was not granting leave due to policy reasons. The petitioners also submitted a detailed representation to the bank, but no decision was taken.
The court directed the Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies and the bank's Chief Executive Officer to assess the organizational needs and the rights of children and reach a final decision on the matter within 60 days. The court clarified that the petitioners should be informed of the decision, and if an adverse decision is made, the petitioners will be free to challenge it in accordance with the law. This High Court directive has raised hopes for female employees of cooperative banks to receive child care leave.
