Class 8 Student Sexually Assaulted at Government Hostel in Sagar
Digital Desk
A shocking case of prolonged sexual abuse has surfaced at a government tribal hostel in Khurai, Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh, where a 12-year-old Class 8 student was allegedly raped repeatedly over four months by a vegetable supplier, leading to her pregnancy.
The minor, originally from a village in Ganjbasoda tehsil of Vidisha district, became pregnant after the assaults began in September 2025. The crime came to light only on February 1, 2026, when severe stomach pain prompted hostel authorities to alert her family. She was rushed to Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal, where medical examinations confirmed she was three months pregnant.
According to the victim's statement to police, the accused, identified as Altaf, regularly visited the tribal government hostel in Khurai to deliver vegetables. In September last year, he forcibly entered her room, locked the door, and raped her despite her resistance. When she tried to fight back, he threatened to kill her if she told anyone.
Terrified, the girl remained silent. The perpetrator exploited opportunities to continue the abuse over the following months, instilling fear with repeated death threats.
The girl's ordeal ended when abdominal pain became unbearable on Saturday. She confided in the hostel warden and watchman, who contacted her parents. The family brought her to Bhopal's Hamidia Hospital the next day, where doctors revealed the pregnancy during routine checks.
Koh-e-Fiza police station in Bhopal registered a zero FIR based on the information. The case diary has been forwarded to Khurai police station for further investigation and action.
Khurai Police Station in-charge Yogendra Singh Dangi said, "As soon as the case diary reaches us, we will initiate necessary proceedings, including recording statements, medical examination of the accused once identified and apprehended, and filing a chargesheet under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act."
The victim's family faces severe hardship. Hailing from a poor household in Vidisha with five daughters and two sons, they rely on limited resources. The girl had been residing at the hostel for two years to pursue her education.
This incident highlights glaring lapses in security at government-run hostels meant to protect vulnerable tribal and rural children, especially girls from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Authorities now face questions about how repeated intrusions by an outsider went unnoticed and why basic safeguards failed.
Police are actively searching for Altaf to arrest him. The minor remains under treatment and observation at Hamidia Hospital.
