A viral video showing a female teacher dancing with students to a Bhojpuri song inside a classroom at the Mata Shabri Government Girls’ Education Complex in Sohagpur has sparked sharp outrage among parents and local residents, prompting demands for strict disciplinary action and raising fresh concerns over student safety and institutional oversight.
The clip, widely circulated on social media over the past few hours, shows students in school uniform participating in a dance to the Bhojpuri song “Patli Kamariya Mori Hai-Hai” alongside the teacher. The video appears to have been recorded inside a classroom for a social media reel. Parents allege that similar videos, including reels made during school hours, have previously been uploaded on the teacher’s social media accounts.
The incident has drawn criticism for undermining classroom discipline and violating norms expected in a government-run girls’ institution. Parents and community groups say such conduct compromises the academic atmosphere and sends the wrong message to students, particularly in a residential school setting.
“This is not about dance alone. It is about responsibility, boundaries, and the safety of our children,” said a parent who demanded action from the education department. Several social organisations echoed the call, urging authorities to conduct a thorough inquiry and ensure accountability.
The controversy has intensified due to the timing of the video. The school has been under scrutiny after two students went missing within the last 15 days. On December 28, a Class 12 student reportedly left the hostel stating she was going home but never reached her destination. A kidnapping case was registered by Sohagpur police following a complaint from the then hostel warden, Sulochana Batte. On January 8, another student from Class 10 was reported missing, after which the school principal, Devendra Srivastava, filed a complaint. Police have registered a separate case against unidentified persons.
Parents argue that the combination of missing students and the viral video points to lapses in supervision and seriousness within the institution. They have demanded immediate administrative action, suspension of the teacher pending inquiry, and stronger safety measures for students, especially hostel residents.

School authorities have not yet issued a detailed public statement. Education department officials said the matter is being reviewed and appropriate steps will be taken after examining the video and related complaints.
As investigations into the missing students continue, the episode has reignited debate over conduct, accountability, and student protection in government-run residential schools.
